Question: Tell me something interesting about yourself that others may not know.
Nick Leverett: "I played the piano for my church growing up."
Q: Why did you choose NCCU?
NL: "NCCU was my only Division I offer. I was originally going to attend WSSU, but coach Eastman called me a day before signing day and offered me a full scholarship. I came for a visit and IMMEDIATELY fell in love."
Q: What is your major? What do you want to do after NCCU?
NL: "Luckily, I had the opportunity to receive my undergraduate degree in criminal justice in 3 years. I have 2 years of football left, so I plan to get my Master's in Public Administration. After football, I want to join the FBI."
Q: What do you like most about being an NCCU Eagle?
NL: "I love how NCCU groomed me into the man I am today. The experiences I've gained at NCCU, the skills I've learned, and the people I've encountered throughout my years has been an opportunity like no other. NCCU has helped raise a boy into a man and prepared me for life after college. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world."
Q: What has been your most memorable moment at NCCU?
NL: "It would have to be my freshman year in 2016 when we beat North Carolina A&T and won the MEAC title outright. So many emotions were flying that game. I will never forget that day."
Q: What is your favorite part of game day at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium?
NL: "My favorite part is the fact that I'm wearing 'NCCU' across my chest. It means so much to me to wear that jersey. It means I'm representing the NCCU brand. I'm representing the entire school - from the Chancellor to the freshman who just landed on the verdant green. Most importantly, I'm representing those who came before and sacrificed for me to have the opportunities I have; as well as setting an example of what Eagle Excellence looks like for those to come after me."
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
NL: "I have a couple. Every Saturday morning, I wake up playing gospel in the hotel room. I sit in the shower for about 20 minutes to wake my body up. I talk to my mentor Carl Jones while I'm in the locker room, and I always take a knee and pray before kickoff."
Q: Why football?
NL: "It's my way to escape life. I'm probably the most calm and nicest guys off the field. But when I strap on my pads, it's a whole different ballgame."
Q: What three words best describe you?
NL: "Dedicated, Disciplined, Humble."
Q: How would you like to be remembered from your playing days at NCCU?
NL: "No matter what the circumstances were, I gave it my all on-and-off the field."
Q: If you could invite any living person to WG Pearson dining hall for lunch, who would it be and why?
NL: "It would be my grandfather Billy. I only get to see him when I go back home to Georgia, but every time I'm with him I just have so much fun. I just know we would have a great time."
