Jones Scores 1,000th Points in Victory over Savannah State

DURHAM, N.C. – Senior guard Morgan Jones scored a career-high 28 points, including her 1,000th career-point, in leading the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team to a 58-51 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over visiting Savannah State University on Monday evening in McDougald-McLendon Arena.

Jones scored NCCU's final eight points over the last 2:18 to seal the victory and she was a sizzling 14-of-16 from the free throw line to account for half of her points. Jones needed 18 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau in her last career home game, and she reached that summit with a running layup at the 7:48 mark of the fourth quarter.

NCCU (7-20 Overall, 6-9 MEAC) only committed six turnovers and shot 44.4-percent (8 of 18) from behind the arc to earn the win and finish off its home slate at 6-8 in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
