DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will try and level its record in a non-conference road game at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
NCCU will be providing a free audio webcast of the game with NCCU Sports Network broadcaster Mike Wood on the air with the play-by-play. N.C. Central Women's Basketball
The Lady Eagles are coming off their most lopsided win in the program's NCAA Division I era, defeating Johnson & Wales University at home by 37 points (75-38) on Friday. NCCU (1-2 Overall) is 0-1 on the road.
Ten days into the season NCCU is ranked in the upper third of the MEAC in several statistical categories. The Lady Eagles are slotted second out of 13 league teams by holding their opponents to just 51.3 points per game. NCCU also ranks third with 11.3 steals per game and fourth with 29.5-percent accuracy from three-point distance.
Senior guard
Morgan Jones leads the maroon and gray with 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Stockbridge, Georgia, product has scored in double figures in all three games and is averaging two made 3-pointers per game.
A pair of forwards follow Jones in the scoring department in freshman
Erin Houser (9.0 points/game) and sophomore
Deja McCain (8.3). Houser is the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week after scoring a game-high 19 points against Johnson & Wales. McCain also scored a career-high 13 points in that contest.
Sophomore guard
Dominique Adams, who made a career-high four steals against the Wildcats, is averaging 7.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior forward
Kierona Morton matches Adams with six boards per contest.
Freshman guard
Jada Blow adds 7.7 points per game and leads the squad with 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Senior guard
Chantal Thomas also averages over two helpers per game.
NCCU opened up its 2015-16 season against Campbell and lost to the Camels by nine points (57-48). Jones had a solid game with eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
Campbell Women's Basketball
The Camels have lost two straight games and last dropped a 66-53 tilt to visiting Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) on Saturday. Campbell (1-2 Overall) was picked eighth out of 10 teams in the Big South Conference preseason women's basketball poll.
Junior guard Summer Price is the Camels top returning scorer from a year ago and she once again leads the team with 13.0 points per game. Price also provides 1.7 steals and 2.3 assists per contest. Freshman Breanna Foster and sophomore Caroline Bowns are netting nine points per game apiece.
The trio of Price, Foster and Bowns have combined to hit 21 three-pointers thru three games for a team average of seven canned treys per contest.
Campbell's top two rebounders in senior Brianna Cribb (7.0 rebounds/game) and sophomore Hannah Long (6.0) are both chipping in seven points per game.
Campbell improved to 14-2 against the Lady Eagles with its road win last year. Price led all players with 15 points. Junior MaKala Rouse, who is averaging seven points per game this season, also played well in that match-up with four points, seven rebounds and two assists.
