#NCCUWBB Begins 2016 at Home against Furman Monday


DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will be trying to successfully end a five-game losing streak for a second time this season and begin the New Year on a strong note heading into the bulk of league play with a non-conference home game against Furman University on Monday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. 
 
Fans who cannot attend the game in McDougald-McLendon Arena, can follow the game online. The Lady Eagles can be watched/listened to on the NCCU Sports Network with Jonathan Duren providing with the play-by-play. Live stats are also available.

NCCU (1-10) suffered its most lopsided loss of the season at UNC Greensboro on New Year's Eve to remain winless on the road at 0-8. The Lady Eagles, who are 1-2 at home, are shooting 31.1-percent and committing 21.9 turnovers per game that has resulted in just 48.5 points per game (ranks 341st/344 DI programs). Senior Tisha Dixon scored a career-high 18 points against the Spartans and continues to lead NCCU in points (11.0) and rebounds (7.5). Classmate Kristin Askew has scored in double figures in two consecutive games and is averaging over one made 3-pointer per game. Junior Morgan Jones returned to the lineup last week after missing three games and supplies 9.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game. NCCU plays 12 players regularly.  
 
FURMAN (7-7) is coming off a 30-point victory over its crosstown foe North Greenville University (DII) on Saturday.  A trio of Paladins are averaging double-digit scoring, including a team-best 14.0 points per game by senior forward Holli Wilkins. The 2013 SoCon Freshman of the Year and 2014 All-SoCon honoree is making nearly 50% of her shots. Junior Whitney Bunn, a 2015 All-SoCon selection, provides 11.4 points per game and 5.5 assists per game (35th nationally). Sophomore Cierra Carter nets 10.9 points per game and pulls down a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game. Furman's top-5 scorers all average over made 3-pointer per game.
