LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lady Eagles scored nine runs in the seventh inning to defeat Quinnipiac University, 13-10, and then scored the game-winning run in their last at bat again to knock off Rider University, 5-4, in North Carolina Central University's final two games at the Liberty Softball Classic on Sunday.
Junior
London Booker was the winning pitcher in both contests. Offensively, junior
Casey Hargett ripped six hits and drove in six runs; senior
Emerie Germ tacked on five hits and scored five times; and sophomore
Dominique Wilson reached base a half dozen times with four hits and two walks including a home run.
Ten different Lady Eagles produced hits on the day with junior
Markell Wylie and sophomore
Brianna Hampton chipping in three apiece. NCCU batted .438 with 28 combined hits in moving back to .500 at 12-12 overall.
Quinnipiac scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to construct a 10-4 lead on the Lady Eagles heading into the final inning. NCCU never gave up and made an improbable comeback scoring nine runs on seven hits and three walks in the top of the seventh.
The Lady Eagles quickly loaded the bases on singles by junior
Angelique Perricelli and Germ and a walk drawn by Wilson. Hargett cleared the bases with a three-run double past the left fielder and later scored on an error to pull NCCU within two at 10-8. Three more hits by junior

Demiree Briones and Germ kept the rally alive. Smith and Wylie both scored on wild pitches to tie the score at 10 apiece. Wilson then hit a groundball down the right line that was booted by the Quinnipiac first baseman that allowed Tracy to score the go-ahead run. Hargett capped the outburst driving in two insurance runs with a single, her fourth and fifth RBI of the inning.
NCCU was outhit 20-15 but the Lady Eagles had the clutch bats compared to the Bobcats who left 13 runners on base.
Germ led NCCU with three hits and two doubles. Wylie added three singles. Wilson put the Lady Eagles up initially with a two-run homer in the first, her fourth blast of the season. Quinnipiac took the lead but NCCU leveled the scoreboard at 3-3 on a sac fly by Tracy in the fifth.
All nine starting batters for the Lady Eagles crossed home plate as NCCU scored a season-high 13 runs.
Booker nearly pitched a complete-game but left the pitcher's circle for a 1/3 of an inning in the fifth after she collided with a Bobcat runner as she tried to catch a popup near the first base line. Booker, who tallied three strikeouts, returned for the final two innings.
NCCU scored one run in four consecutive innings to lead for most of its nightcap but Rider scored in three of those four frames to eventually knot the score at 4-4 after five innings. The Lady Eagles regained their lead on the Broncs for a third and final time in the seventh. Wilson started the rally with a seeing-eyed single through the right side of the infield. Hargett followed with her fourth consecutive single in the game to move Wilson to second. Freshman
Jamonica Smith pinch ran for Wilson at second and came around to score the go-ahead run on an ensuing single by Hampton.
Hampton fouled off six pitches in her clutch battle at the plate before poking a single on the 10th pitch of the at bat for the game-winning RBI. Harggett added a stolen base to her four hit performance.
A pair of run-producing singles by Hargett and Wilson highlighted NCCU's early scoring plays while Wylie knocked in the other two runs with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly. Germ, who added a single and a double, scored both times.
Booker (8-6) hurled three more innings in picking up her second win of the day. Booker did allow the potential tying Rider runner to reach base in the bottom of the seventh but the Lady Eagles finished off the victory by turning a nice 6-4-3 double play from Smith to Tracy to Hampton.
NCCU returns home to host Montreat College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
