NCCU HOSTS SOUTH CAROLINA STATE ON SATURDAY TO REIGNITE MEAC PLAY

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will host the Bulldogs of South Carolina State University on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2:00 p.m. inside the McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium for the first home doubleheader of the season.
 
NCCU (2-12) and SC State (8-5) share two common opponents this season in Presbyterian and Wofford College. NCCU lost both of its games against Presbyterian and Wofford by the scores of 45-33 and 69-55 respectively. SC State lost to Presbyterian by the score of 46-33, but was able to defeat Wofford by the score of 59-53 in overtime.
 
The last time the Lady Eagles played SC State in Durham was in a 60-43 NCCU victory on March 1, 2014, which sealed a season sweep at 2-0 after a previous 57-51 victory in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
 
NCCU continues to be topped by senior center Racquel Davis, who scored her 1,000th career point in the final seconds of Tuesday's setback against Wofford. Davis averages a team-high of 14.1 points per game and a MEAC-best 9.3 rebounds per contest.
 
SC State is sparked by senior guard Kourtney Williams, who scores a team-high 14.8 points per game and leads the Lady Bulldogs with 30 steals.
 
SC State leads the MEAC in scoring defense, holding opponents to only 57.0 points per game, and is the only women's basketball team in the conference to have out-scored its opponents so far this season, boasting a +5.1 scoring margin. The Lady Bulldogs also top the league in steals (13.8 avg.) and field goal percentage defense (.377).
