NCCU FALLS IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE GAME TO WOFFORD

Tisha Dixon Records Double-Double; Racquel Davis Scores 1,000th Career Point

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University junior forward Tisha Dixon posted her second double-double of the season and senior center Racquel Davis scored her 1,000th career point, but the visiting Wofford Terriers put a damper on any post-game celebrations by beating the Lady Eagles 69-55 on Tuesday night inside McDougald-McLendon Gym.

Dixon finished with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Davis netted a team-best 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half, including her 1,000th career point on a jumper with 24 seconds left in the contest. Khyra Conerly added 10 points, five boards and four assists for NCCU (2-12).

Kentra Washington scored a career-high 20 points to go along with a team-best eight rebounds to lead Wofford (4-10). Chanel Stokes contributed 17 points for the Terriers, while Ashton Fleming chipped in 11 points and seven caroms.

Racquel DavisNCCU held a seven-point advantage at 19-12 following a Conerly layup with 9:25 left in the first half. Washington quickly responded by nailing a three-pointer to start a 17-3 run that provided the Terriers with a 29-22 lead heading into the locker room. The only Lady Eagles' points during the final nine minutes of the first half came on a three-point basket by Kristin Askew at the 6:21 mark.

In the second half, NCCU managed to trim the deficit to two points (29-27) thanks to a pair of free throws by Dixon at 16:58, but Wofford scored seven unanswered points to increase its lead to nine points. The Lady Eagles only got as close as seven points the rest of the night, with the Terriers enjoying a double-digit cushion during the final seven minutes of the contest.

The victory ends a five-game losing skid for Wofford, while NCCU's streak of deficits extends to nine heading into the thick of conference play on Saturday, Jan. 10 against South Carolina State at 2 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Gym in Durham, North Carolina.
