THE LAST MEETING                                                                                                                
(Nov. 9, 2013 - Hampton 29, NCCU 21) NCCU's Adrian Wilkins returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. However, Hampton amassed 482 yards of total offense, including 256 rushing yards, to earn a 29-21 victory over the visiting Eagles on Saturday inside Armstrong Stadium in Hampton, Va. Hampton's dominant ground attack was topped by the one-two punch of Marcus Hampton and Jorrain Washington, who combined for 232 yards and three touchdowns. NCCU, which managed 294 total yards, was led offensively by senior quarterback Jordan Reid, who completed 15-of-35 passes for 203 yards with two interceptions and a rushing touchdown. Eagles' running back Deyonta Wright tallied a team-high 48 rushing yards with a touchdown. NCCU safety C.J. Moore collected 12 tackles with a pass break-up to save a touchdown.
 
LAST WEEK                                                                                                                              
(#20 Bethune-Cookman 34, NCCU 20) NCCU took a 14-7 advantage into the locker room, but Bethune-Cookman, boasting the second-ranked defense in the FCS, held the Eagles to just 20 yards of total offense after intermission. The Wildcats pounded out 334 yards and five touchdowns on the ground as part of 453 total yards to pull away for a 34-20 victory.
 
(Morgan State 38, Hampton 35) Hampton University took a 35-31 lead with 2:42 remaining in the game, but Morgan State answered with a game-winning touchdown with just 1:13 left on the clock. Making his second career start for the Pirates, rookie quarterback Jerrell Antoine completed 15 of 26 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
 
THE COACHES                                                                                                                         
NCCU: Jerry Mack (Arkansas State, 2003) is in his first season as a college head coach. At age 34, he boasts 10 years of coaching experience, including stints with five NCAA Division I programs and two conference championship teams. A native of Memphis, Tenn., Mack has held positions as wide receivers coach at the University of South Alabama (2012-13) and the University of Memphis (2011), as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (2010), as passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at the University of Central Arkansas (2008-09), as wide receivers and tight ends coach at Jackson State University (2006-07), and as an offensive graduate assistant at Delta State University (2004-05). Mack began his collegiate playing career at Jackson State before transferring after one season (1999) to Arkansas State University.  He lettered three years at Arkansas State (2001-03) before earning his bachelor's degree in management information systems in 2003. Mack completed his master's degree in physical education from Delta State in 2006.
 
Hampton: Connell Maynor, a veteran of 20-plus years of football experience both as a player and coach – and most recently as the offensive architect of back-to-back HBCU national titles at Winston-Salem State – was been named the 20th head coach in the history of Hampton University football following the 2013 season. Maynor is a former standout football student-athlete at both Winston-Salem State and North Carolina A&T. In four years as head coach at WSSU, Maynor went 45-6 overall and 29-2 in CIAA play. He won three straight CIAA championships and made three straight appearances in the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Rams advanced to the Division II national championship game in 2012. WSSU won HBCU national championships in both 2011 and 2012. He was also named CIAA Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012, and the 2011 Sheridan Broadcasting National HBCU Coach of the Year.
 
EAGLES' FOURTH QUARTER WOES
Against MEAC teams this season, NCCU has out-scored the opposition 112-64 in the first three quarters of play. However, the Eagles have been out-scored 62-45 in the fourth quarter.
 
WILKINS TOPS MEAC IN RECEPTIONS, RECEIVING YARDS                                          
NCCU junior Adrian Wilkins (Forest City, N.C.) leads the MEAC in receptions per game (5.8) and receiving yards per game (65.0). 
 
CLARKE REACHES CAREER RUSHING STANDARD                                                                 
Redshirt senior running back Andre Clarke (Mauldin, S.C.) collected 67 rushing yards at Morgan State (Oct. 18) to become the 12th Eagle in school history to rush for 1,500 career yards. He currently ranks 11th at NCCU with 1,644 career rushing yards. Clarke's 27 career rushing touchdowns rank third at NCCU, behind Joe Simmons (1990-93) with 28 and Gerald Fraylon (1981-84) with 31. Clarke is the fourth Eagle to reach double-digit rushing touchdowns in a season. Joe Simmons holds the NCCU single-season record with 16 rushing touchdowns in 1993, followed by Clarke with 12 this season.
 
NCCU SLIDES TO SECOND IN MEAC IN TOTAL OFFENSE                                                      
After posting just 200 yards of total offense at #20 Bethune-Cookman, NCCU slid to second in the MEAC rankings in total offense with 373.1 yards per game. This week's opponent, Hampton University, holds the top spot with an average of 373.8 total offensive yards per game.
