Box Score DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team fell to the Lady Bulldogs from South Carolina State 70-50 in its final home contest of the 2012-13 campaign on Monday, March 4 inside McDougald-MeLendon Gymnasium on the campus of NCCU.
Lone senior,
Chasidy Williams finished her last game on her home court with 11 points and a game-high six rebounds.
The rookie duo of
Aja Hoyle and
Tisha Dixon contributed to the Lady Eagles offense scoring 14 and 10 respectively while fellow freshman
Amber Neely pulled down an additional six boards.
NCCU kept the game within reach during majority of the first half tying the contest on four occasions, the most recent after a layup from Williams with 58 seconds left on the clock. SCSU finished out the first 20 minutes on a 5-0 run taking a 33-28 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the second half on an 8-2 run before taking control of the game and pulling ahead by 25 with 3:29 left on the clock before defeating the Lady Eagles 70-50.
As a team, the Lady Eagles shot 40 percent from the field on 18-for-45 shooting, pulled down a game-high of 30 rebounds, collected six steals, blocked four shots and shot 13-for-17 from the charity stripe.
SCSU was led by Tiara Knotts and Ashley Clarke who contributed 19 and 10 points a piece.
Overall, the Lady Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field on 27-for-53, pulled down 29 rebounds, collected 13 steals, dished out 10 assists and shot 12-for-17 from the free throw line.
The Lady Eagles close out the 2012-13 season on the road Thursday, March 7 at Hampton University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
