GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University collected medals in six events during the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which wrapped up three days of competition on Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
NCCU senior
Nealie Whitt (Roxboro, N.C.) earned the lone gold medal for the Eagles, becoming the MEAC champion in the men’s discus throw with a meet record toss of 170-feet, 9-inches.
Junior
Jasmine Wanamaker (Philadelphia, Pa.) took home a silver medal as the runner-up in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.59 seconds.
Individual bronze medalists for NCCU include junior
Willie Calvin (Greenville, Miss.) in the men’s high jump (6’ 11”), senior
Paig Robinson (Piscataway, N.J.) in the women’s javelin throw (125’ 3”), and freshman
Amber Brooks (Tampa, Fla.) in the 1500m run (4:40.28).
In the final event of the 2012 championships, the men’s 4x400m relay, the Eagles were in fourth place in the first heat when sophomore
Brandon Addison (Germantown, Md.) took the stick for the anchor leg. He blistered the final lap to win the heat with a season-best time of 3:10.22, good for third place overall. Addison, senior

Phillip Barren (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman
Jaye Pratt (Durham, N.C.) embraced when they saw the times posted from the final heat and realized they had earned bronze medals.
In the team standings, the NCCU women placed ninth with 35 points, while the NCCU men finished 10th with 30 points.
“The team performed well,” said NCCU head coach
Michael Lawson. “The MEAC definitely felt our presence.
“I’m glad to be in the MEAC,” Lawson said. “The competition level is so high. All of the teams are good.”
