Game Notes: NCCUW at. N.C. A&T
DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University takes on its long-time rivals, North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2:00 p.m. in Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, N.C., for the final regular season Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition against the Lady Aggies of the 2011-12 season.
Saturday’s contest marks the 30
th meeting between the Lady Eagles and Lady Aggies, which N.C. A&T leads 23-7.
NCCU opened MEAC play with an 84-74 loss to North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Dec. 3 in Durham, N.C. With over 2,000 Eagle fans supporting the Lady Eagles, the mighty maroon managed to turn a nine-point N.C. A&T lead into two ties at the 7:38 mark of the second half of play, before the third-leading scorer of the afternoon, Mikala Scott paced the Aggies on a final 16-6 run to conclude the first NCCU MEAC contest. In the second-half play, the mighty maroon outscored the Aggies 42-41.
NCCU junior Chasidy Williams led the maroon and gray with a career-high 27 points, while freshman Kabrina Truesdale finished with 14 points and four assists and sophomore Tiffany Gary provided a career-high 13 points. Sophomore Alesha Jenkins pulled down nine rebounds and circulated five assists, as senior Blaire Houston shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and also distributed five assists.
Since that contest, NCCU is 3-22 on the season and 1-11 in conference play, while North Carolina A&T is 11-14 on the season and 6-6 in the MEAC.
The maroon and gray enters the “Dawg Pound” following a 52-78 loss to the South Carolina State University on Monday, Feb. 13. Offensive leader Williams led the squad with her seventh double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Truesdale lobbed six assists and gathered two steals.
The maroon and gray finished the hardwood matchup at 20-of-57 from the field at 35 percent, 3-of-14 from the long range, and 60 percent on a 9-of-15 effort from the charity stripe.
On the season, NCCU is 37 percent from the field on 464-of-1268 shooting, 71-of-238 from behind the arc, and 60 percent from the charity stripe, 270-of-449. Williams guides NCCU with 359 points, 176 rebounds, 59 steals and 18 blocks, while Truesdale and senior Blaire Houston lead in assists with 44.
North Carolina A&T hosts the Durham, N.C., squad after a 69-45 victory over Savannah State University on Monday, Feb. 13 in Greensboro, N.C. Tiffanie Adair led the blue and gold with a double-double of 14 points and 14 boards, while Nikia Gorham scored 12 points and Amber Calvin, who was 11-of-12 from 12-feet, dropped 11 points.
The Lady Aggies were 41 percent from the field on 18-of-44, 3-of-12 from the long range, and 81 percent from the free-throw line, 30-of-37.
On the season, N.C. A&T is shooting 38 percent from the field on 583-of-1537, shooting, 92-of-352 from the long range, and 68 percent from the charity stripe, 436-of-643. JaQuayla Berry leads the team with 325 points, 155 rebounds, 54 steals and 13 blocks, as Calvin has circulated 87 assists.
