NCCU INDOOR TRACK & FIELD POSTS FOUR TOP-FIVE FINISHES AT VIRGINIA TECH INVITATIONAL

NCCU's Calvin Finishes in Second during Men's High Jump

BLACKSBURG, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior #Willie Calvin# finished in second place during the men’s high jump event at the Virginia Tech Invitational leading three top-five performances by NCCU during the indoor track & field meet this weekend, Jan. 13-14, 2012.

Cavlin, the top performer for NCCU, finished his second place high jump with a jump of 2.18 meters (7 feet, 1.75 inches).

Another NCCU top-five victory was celebrated by the foursome of Greg Roper, Phillip Barren, Snonsio Boye-Weah and Brandon Addison, who finished in fourth place during the men’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:20.47 while Nana Atakora-Bediako also finished in fouth during the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.86m (48 feet, 9 inches).


Rounding out the top-five finishes was freshmen Amber Brooks. Brooks finished the women’s 800m run in fifth place with a time of 2:20.50.

The Lady Eagles also enjoyed six other top 15 finishes during the Invitational.Ashley McCoy placed 12th in the 200m dash (25.01), Ciara Houston finished ninth in the 400m dash (59.25), Sararesa Hudson finished in 15th during the 400m dash (1:01.79), the 4x400m relay team of Hudson, McCoy, Houston and #La’Creesha Gore# finished in 10th place (3:59.36) and Jazmen Flagler finished the women’s high jump in seventh place with a 1.60m jump (5 feet, 3 inches).

Besides Calvin’s success in the high jump, and the foursome’s fourth place finish, the NCCU men had five other top 15 performances. Barren finished in 12th place during the 200m dash (22.36), Boye-Weah finished in 14th place during the 200m dash (22.46), Jamar Jones finished 12th during the 500m dash (1:07.53), Kendall Delapp finished in 14th place during the men’s triple jump and Nealie Whitt finished in seventh place in the men's shot put with a 14.89m throw (48 feet, 10.25 inches).

The NCCU men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams will return to action on 28 at the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
