Game Notes: NCCU at Presbyterian College
DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team returns to the Palmetto State on Tuesday, Nov, 29 for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., in the Templeton Center.
The two squads meet for the third time in school history, with NCCU leading the series 2-0. Presbyterian is 1-of-13 schools that NCCU leads with an undefeated record.
The Lady Eagles and the Blue Hose initially met during the 2009-10 season with the mighty maroon pulling a one-point 57-56 upset in Clinton, S.C., on Feb. 16, 2010 In the following season, NCCU seized its second win of the series with a 43-38 victory in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on Nov. 20, 2010
NCCU graduate Jori Nwachukwu and junior Chasidy Williams led the maroon and gray in scoring with Nwachukwu finishing with 15 points and Williams tallying 11 points. The duo also led in rebounding with nine boards apiece. PC was paced by Karlee Taylor with nine points, while Dria Davis and Mariah Pietrowski gathered eight points apiece. Chelsea Parker pulled down six rebounds in the NCCU victory.
NCCU (1-5) enters the Templeton Center after 70-53 loss to the Spartans of UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Nov. 26 in Durham, N.C.
NCCU senior Blaire Houston led the squad with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while junior Jasmine Alston, who was 3-of-4 from the long range, dropped 13 points. Williams also led the Lady Eagles in assists with three.
Statistically, the Lady Eagles were 45 percent from the field on 22-of-49 shooting, 3-of-5 from behind the arc, and 50 percent from the charity stripe, 6-of-12.
On the season, the maroon and gray is 35 percent from the field on 112-of-319 shooting, 30 percent from the long range, and 58 percent from the free-throw line, 50-of-86. Junior Chasidy Williams guides the squad in points with 67, rebounds at 39, and steals with 11 on the season. Williams, junior J’Mia Pollock and sophomore Lakisha Evans lead in blocks at four apiece, as Truesdale has circulated 10 assists.
Presbyterian College (2-4) hosts the Lady Eagles 52-24 loss to South Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 27 in Columbia, S.C.
In the 28-point loss, South Carolina held each member of the Blue Hose offense to single-figure scoring, with Sherece Smith leading with eight points and grabbing five rebounds.
This season, PC is 33 percent from the field on 103-of-312, 25 percent from behind the arc and 56 percent from the free-throw line, 41-of-73. Davis leads the team with 49 points, 20 assists, 14 steals and four blocks, as Mariah Pietrowski has pulled down 30 rebound.
