DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team will take to the court on Friday, Nov. 11 for its first official contest of the season, hosting the Catamounts of Western Carolina in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
This is the second meeting between the two programs, with WCU leading the series 1-0.
Thirty-two years ago under the direction of former head women’s basketball Francis A. Silva, the Lady Eagles fell 56-89 to the Catamounts in Cullowhee, N.C. on Nov. 30, 1979.
The Lady Eagles enter the contest coming off a 78-63 exhibition victory over Claflin University on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in McDougald-McLendon. Redshirt junior Chasidy Williams hit the hardwood with an outstanding performance dropping 27 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Along with Williams stellar opening-season finish, freshman Kabrina Truesdale scored in double-figures with 12 points, while senior Blaire Houston topped the night with eight points. Sophomore Tiffany Gary pulled down 11 boards, as Williams collected seven steals.
The Catamounts enter the nest after a 56-51 loss to Mars Hill in an exhibition competition on Friday, Nov. 4 in Cullowhee, N.C.
WCU freshman guard Ali Lane led the Catamounts with 14 points and tied for most rebounds with eight. Lane was 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. JaNae’ McKinney was the only other Catamount player to hit double figures, with 11 points. Caitlin Hollifield, along with Lane, topped the team in rebounds with eight.
