BUIES CREEK, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com)- The recipe that has led to disaster all season long came back out on Friday afternoon at Taylor Field in Buies Creek, N.C. as the North Carolina Central University baseball team committed nine errors in two games which led to 11 unearned runs and two double-digit run innings in the doubleheader sweep (16-2, 27-4) at the hands of the Campbell University Camels.

Game one was a homecoming of sorts for freshman Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.) who lives literally right down the road from Campbell, but Friday was definitely not his day which set the tone for the rest of the afternoon as he last just eight batters, retiring none after walking the first five and hitting two others while allowing one hit as the Eagles fell behind 14-0 in the bottom of the first inning. A total of 19 batters came to the plate in that frame which Campbell was able to muster eight hits, while using two Eagles miscues to their advantage.

The Camels cruised from that point on scoring just two more runs the rest of the way to win the ballgame 16-2.

The Diamond Eagles avoided the shutout in the top of the sixth inning with two runs, the first of which came from Nate Smith (Raleigh, N.C.) who singled and would later score on an error by Campbell's David Rivera who dropped the ball when applying a tag on Smith in a run down. The second and final Eagle run came off the bat of Edward Pegues (Laurinburg, N.C.) who drove in senior infielder Kurt Wilson (Riverdale, Ga.) for his 10 RBI of the season.

Sophomore backstop Etienne Farquharson (Inaqua, Bahamas) was the lone Eagle to record two hits in the first game as the went 2-for-3 at the dish.

Game two was not very different from the first contest as costly errors undid NCCU once again. Starter Drew Robinson (Carthage, N.C.) just three innings but found himself down 9-0 after the first two innings on the heels of five Eagle errors that brought in eight unearned runs. All in all, Robinson lasted just three innings but surrendered eight earned in the effort as Campbell scored in the first four innings which included the second double-digit run inning of the afternoon.

The Fighting Camels (22-21) pulled away in the bottom of the fourth with 12 runs on eight hits along with another Eagle error to pull away with a 25-0 advantage.

NCCU (2-39) scored three runs in the sixth inning as relief pitcher Richie Gaito walked in two runs, Pegues had an RBI groundout to give him 11 on the season, and in the seventh Smith creamed his team-high sixth triple of the season to drive in Ross Plummer (Winston-Salem, N.C.) putting the final touches on the 27-4 loss. Smith now has 12 RBIs on the season.

Plummer led the Eagle attack with at 2-for-4 effort at the dish with two runs scored. He finished the day with a 3-for-8 performance at the plate. The lone Eagle to have more than two hits. The Diamond Eagles have no time to bask on the doubleheader sweep as they get right back to it on Saturday afternoon against these same Camels for a "Senior Day" doubleheader at the Durham Athletic Park beginning with a 2:00 first pitch with the team honoring its six seniors (Greg Pickett, Joseph Cobb, Tim McAllister, James Jordan, Justin Goodson, and Kurt Wilson) prior to game one of the doubleheader.

Tune in to the festivities tommorow via the NCCU Sports Network as Eagle Gameday presented by the Hilton RTP hits the internet airwaves beginning at 1:45 for the "Senior Day" twinbill between NCCU and Campbell. Play-by-play voice of the Eagles, Chris Hooks, will count listeners down to first pitch. Also hear comments from the seniors as the play at the DAP for the final time.
