PANTHERSVILLE, GA. (NCCUEaglePride.com)- The North Carolina Central University baseball team tried everything it could to regroup from Friday night's loss to Georgia State, only to be swept in doubleheader action against the Panthers 14-0, 24-2 on Saturday afternoon in Panthersville, Ga.
GSU (3-6) scored at least 1 run in 11 of the 12 at-bats, amassing 32 hits and scoring 38 runs in two seven inning games sending NCCU to its seventh straight loss to begin the season.
Game one saw NCCU clean up their mistakes from Friday only to be behind 6-0 after the Panthers sent two Joseph Cobb (Raleigh, N.C.) miscues over the left field fence giving Georgia State the early lead after three innings.
The Panthers added four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the six, while NCCU left five runners on base and managed just two hits in the 14-0 shutout loss.
Game two saw Georgia Sate explode in its first three at-bats with eight runs in the bottom of the first, five in the second, and one in the third to vault the Panthers to a 14-1 lead in which they never looked back.
NCCU put a run on the scoreboard following freshman Nate Smith's (Knightdale, N.C.) first career double when Justin Goodson singled Smith in averting the shutout in the second game of the twinbill. Kurt Wilson (Riverdale, Ga.) drove in the final Eagle run in the fourth with his only hit of the game as NCCU scored in back-to-back innings.
Smith and Goodson had two hits apiece in game two to lead the way for the Eagles.
The loss sends NCCU to 0-7 on the season, and the Eagles have one more chance to pull an upset on Sunday afternoon against Georgia State with the series finale set for noon. Tune in online to Eagle Gameday presented by the Hilton RTP as Chris Hooks, sets the scene from Atlanta, Ga.
