CARY, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team return to the courts earning a 5-2 win over the Bears of Morgan State in Cary, N.C. at the Cary Tennis Center.
The Eagles began the competition with doubles play. NCCU's No. 1 partners sophomore Jack Waissen and junior Trey Chatman fell to Kevon Charles and Eric Ward in a thrilling 8-7 (3) match.
NCCU's No. 2 and No. 3 teams settled the score, for the doubles point. Eagles' sophomores Alejandro Espitia and Jose Fabara defeated Aaron Benjamin and Dmitry Chekhlatyy, 8-5 during the No. 2 match. NCCU seniors Stephen Allsop and Bryan Jackson trounced Duwane Thomas and James Lee, 8-5.
During singles play, the Eagles obtained four wins of the six matches. In a Waissen vs. Charles rematch, Waissen defeated Charles 6-3, 6-4 to open singles play. As the No. 2 singles player, Espitia beat Ward, 6-1, 6-4.
At the No. 4 spot, Chatman overpowered Benjamin 6-3, 6-1. Rounding singles play and the match for the Eagles was Allsop. Allsop beat Lee 6-3, 6-3 as the No. 6 player for the Eagles.
The Eagles return to action Saturday, March 27 to face Norfolk State in Norfolk, Va. slated to begin at 12 p.m.
