CARY, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team gave a superb performance during their third head-to-head match against a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team. The Eagles defeated the Bears of Morgan State 7-0 at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C.

"We had excellent play from each member of our team," said NCCU head coach David Nass. "Morgan came to us with the same team as last year, which shows that we have improved tremendously."

The Eagles earned the first point of the match during doubles play. Eagles' No.1 senior Kateryna Chorna and freshman Olesya Palko defeated Alexis McCoy and Nekesa Thomas, 8-2.

NCCU's No. 2 sophomore Cameron Chatman and junior Ashley Rogers earned an 8-1 win over Viktoriya Lukyanenko and Pola Olczak.

Eagles' No. 3 senior Monica Medina and junior Tatiana Velasquez earned the default win over Sydnee Collins and Francis Ferdinand.

Singles play was just as impressive for the Eagles. NCCU's Palko began singles play with an exciting 6-4, 6-0 defeat over Lukyanenko. Chorna overpowered her singles competition McCoy, 6-2, 6-3. Taking care of business for the seventh time in a row, Chatman beat Thomas 6-1, 6-1.

"Rogers dominated a talented Morgan State player," said Nass. Rogers faced Olczak during singles play, to obtain a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Sealing the win for the Eagles was Velasquez, defeating Ferdinand 6-3, 6-1. "Velasquez deserves special credit," said Nass. "She was determined to win through her injury that crippled the use of her two-handed backhand shot."

Eagles advance their record to 6-8.
