DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com)- Saturday afternoon saw the North Carolina Central University baseball team fall behind from the get-go against rival North Carolina A&T State University when the Aggies scored 11 runs in the top of the first to set the tone for in a 27-6 loss at the Durham Athletic Park.

The Eagles and Aggies were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but shortly after the conclusion of game one a heavy downpour came in the Durham area that soaked the field and rained out the second contest.

The Aggies scored 22 runs on 19 hits in the first three innings, including a grand slam by the ninth hitter in the A&T lineup second baseman James Howard who had a magnificent day at the plate going 4-for-6 with 6 RBIs and three runs scored. All that quickly took away any chance of NCCU earning its first win of the season, but that did not mean the Eagles ever stopped fighting. In fact, NCCU collected nine hits in the loss which was a season-high.

NCCU got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second thanks in part to a Justin Goodson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) double to the gap in right center field, and a Tim McAllister RBI double down the right field line to help get the Eagle offense going.

NCCU got its final three runs of the day when freshman backstop Etienne Farquharson (Inaqua, Bahamas) belted his first career three run home run giving the Eagles its final runs of the day in the bottom of the sixth.

NC A&T (4-8) scored in five of the seven innings to break a two-game losing streak.

Senior James Jordan (Bryson City, N.C.) had his longest relief outing of the season allowing just four hits and holding the Aggies to four earned runs with one strikeout.

Freshman Nate Smith (Knightdale, N.C.) went 2-for-4 on the day including his second double of the season.

NCCU (0-13) looks to rebound from Saturday's tough loss as the Eagles travel to the Gate City of Greensboro to take on the Aggies in the series finale that is set for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch from historic War Memorial Stadium on Sunday.
