Final Stats
DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com)- The North Carolina Central University baseball team committed a season-high 13 errors in two games to go along with the already soggy conditions to fall in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College on Friday evening at the Durham Athletic Park 18-1, 10-3.
The Blue Hose wasted no time to getting on the board in game one, grabbing a quick 10-0 lead before the Eagles could flinch. Presbyterian got up early behind 10 runs on eight hits and never looked back.
NCCU's lone run in the ballgame came when Akeem Hood (Raleigh, N.C.) drove in teammate Justin Goodson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) with a single to the gap in right center field. PC followed that up with six runs in the sixth inning and a run in the top of the seventh to pull away for the 18-1 win. All told, the Eagles committed six errors and only 12 of the 18 runs were earned in the contest.
Game two saw things get much worse as Presbyterian scored all 10 of its runs and had seven of its eights hits, but the Eagles certainly aided in the big innings thanks in part to seven errors in the same three inning span to cruise to the doubleheader sweep. The Blue Hose scored three in the second, five in the third, and two more in the fourth, giving themselves enough cushion to hold on for the sweep.
The Eagles continued to fight as they always do scoring a run in each of the final three innings to pull the final margin a little closer. Seven different Eagles tallied hits but sophomore Anthony Wilson (Fort Washington, Md.) had his second multi-hit game in the last three contests going 2-for-3 at the plate.
In losing both games, NCCU falls to 0-12 on the season, and looks to refocus on Saturday as they embark on the back end of the Friday/Saturday doubleheader against arch-rival North Carolina A&T. First pitch in game one is set for 1:15 p.m. and game two is tentatively set for 3:00 p.m. Admission is free at the Durham Athletic Park.
