KENNESAW, Ga. - The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team enjoyed a sunny Georgia weekend, adding one win and one loss to the record after facing Savannah State and Kennesaw State Feb. 20-21 in Kennesaw, Ga.

NCCU opened its weekend Saturday (Feb. 20) against the Savannah State Tigers. By the end of competition the Eagles clawed the Tigers to the bone, sweeping Savannah State 7-0.

The Eagles earned their first 7-0 win on Feb. 6 against Coker College.

NCCU's No. 1 teammates senior Kateryna Chorna (Ivano-Frankivsk) and freshman Olesya Palko (Kyiv, Ukraine) set the tone during doubles competition, defeating Lauren Daniels and Shannon Howard 8-0.

The Eagles' No. 2 team, junior Ashley Rogers (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Cameron Chatman (High Point, N.C.) beat Shawannda McClain and Davita Washington, 8-0.

NCCU junior Tatiana Velasquez and senior Maria Medina teamed up as the No. 3 team, to close-out doubles play with an 8-0 win over Courtney Johnson and Denisa Vanca.

As the competition moved to singles play, the Eagles continued their stellar play only dropping a set to Savannah State.

On Sunday (Feb. 21), the Eagles went head-to-head with the Kennesaw State Owls. Regrettably for the Eagles, the Owls proved to be the better birds with a 5-2 win.

The Eagles advance their record to 2-6 on the season.

The Eagles will be back in action Friday (Feb. 26) as they take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers on the NCCU tennis courts adjacent to the McDougald- McLendon Gym at 1 p.m.
