LADY EAGLES HEAD TO BOILING SPRINGS TO FACE GARDNER-WEBB

NCCU seeks to obtain its second win against a Big South opponent

DURHAM, N.C. –
The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team looks to obtain a road win and snap its five-game losing streak in Boiling Springs, N.C. against the Runnin’ Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb (5-3) on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.
 
NCCU and the Big South foe have met four times in the programs’ history, including NCCU’s 55-66 loss during the 2009-10 campaign in McDougald-McLendon Gym.
 
The Lady Eagles (1-6) enter the contest following a 32-66 loss to South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C. on Dec. 4. Sophomore J’Mia Pollock’s season-high 11 rebounds was not enough to propel the Lady Eagles past the Lady Bulldogs. Senior Jori Nwachukwu provided the only NCCU double-digit performance on the night with 12 points and seven boards. Fellow senior Shanise Blanks followed with nine points and a perfect charity line percentage.
 
On the season, Nwachukwu directs the offense with an average of 14.6 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. Sophomore Chasidy Williams follows Nwachukwu with 10.6 points a contest. Blanks dominates the steals game with 14, while adding 7.7 points a game. Blanks and senior comrade Sheresa Mills share in the assists lead with nine.
 
The Lady Eagles are shooting 29 percent from the field, 62 percent at the free throw line NCCU is 62 percent and 17 percent from behind the arc.
 
Gardner-Webb hosts Tuesday night’s contest with a record of 5-3, following a 68-58 win over Longwood on Dec. 5 in Farmville, Va.
 
The Runnin’ Bulldogs offense is paced by sister-duo Monique and Dominique Hudson and Sandra Vaitkute. Monique Hudson averages 14.4 points a game, while amassing 22 steals and 31 assists. Dominique Hudson averages 12.0 points a game, and leads in assists with 42. Vaitkute is the third double-digit performer with 10.0 points per game and averages 6.4 rebounds per contest. LaTroya Pope guides the rebounding game with 8.0 boards a game.
 
Gardner-Webb hits 40 percent from the field, 33 percent from behind the arc and 71 percent from the charity stripe.
