GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team (0-3) suffered an admirable 6-0 loss to East Carolina (1-0) Friday evening in Greensboro, N.C.
The Eagles kicked off the match with singles play, No. 1 freshman Olesya Palko faced Audrey LePottier. Although LePothier defeated Palko, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, Palko served the Pirates their first set loss since their first meeting four seasons ago.
Palko was not alone in this accomplishment, No. 2 sophomore Cameron Chatman went head-to-head against Natalie Collins and earned a set win. After taking the opening set, Collins defeated Chatman, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
"This is our fifth meeting and our first set win since we began scheduling ECU," said head coach David Nass. "While we have improved since our last meeting, in reflection our conditioning much be picked up a notch."
Unfortunately, due to facility restraints the Eagles did not compete in doubles competition.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. facing the Phoenix of Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
