CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team return to the nest following a momentous effort against the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb Saturday evening on the campus of North Carolina.

The Lady Eagles began the match on top, taking a 1-0 advantage following doubles play. The Eagles began their dominance with the No. 3 Doubles team of junior Tatiana Velasquez and senior Maria Media overpowering Tavenner Black/ Allie Mills 8-2.

The No. 2 Doubles team of junior Ashley Rogers and sophomore Cameron Chatman defeated Ioana Oprea/ Rita Gouveia 8-5.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the No. 1 senior Kateryna Chorna and freshman Olesya Palko fell to Erica White/ Kasey Ellis 8-3.

As singles play began, the Eagles reign began to fall. Out of the six Lady Eagles competing, Chatman and Velasquez were victorious during competition, defeating their Runnin' Bulldog competition 6-4, 6-1 and 6-4, 7-5, respectively.

The Lady Eagles continue their spring season competition Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. against the University of Memphis at Duke.
