RALEIGH, N.C.- The Wolfpack of North Carolina State University tallied a combined 30 runs on 31 hits in doubleheader action against the Eagles of North Carolina Central University on Sunday afternoon extending its losing streak to 12 games, 15-2, and 15-5 at Doak Field.
Game one saw NC State storm out in front, pulling ahead 11-0 in the first four innings. NCCU averted the shutout that same inning on Robert Grant's RBI ground out to first base.
NC State poured on four more runs in the sixth inning thanks in part to Cameron Conner's first home run of the season, which proved to be the final tally for the Wolfpack. In the bottom of the second in game two, NCCU had allowed only one run and had two strikes on two different batters, catcher Chris Schaffer and Dallas Poulk, with two outs, and could not close the deal, which lead to a Kyle Wilson three-run homer and a run scored on Eagle miscues and NCCU found itself quickly behind 6-0 after two innings.
The ensuing at-bat for the Eagles found themselves battling right back. Kurt Wilson had an RBI groundout to score Scott, and pull NCCU within four at 6-2. Eagle freshman Ross Plummer came up and hit a hard groundball at third baseman Kyle Wilson who then threw the ball away, which prompted Blake Murray to race home where he was cut off for the final out of the inning but the damage was done, 6-2 the Eagles were back in it.
After holding the Wolfpack scoreless in the bottom-half of the third, NCCU plated another run to cut the margin to three at 6-3. NC State followed that up with Cameron Conner's second home-run of the day adding to a four-run fourth, widening the margin to seven at 10-3.
