PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Men's and Women's Track and Field at North Carolina Central University traveled up to the "City of Brotherly Love" to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays with two Eagle athletes, Eric Smalls and Will Scott coming away with top-five finishes at historic Franklin Field.
Senior shot-putter Eric Smalls finished in second place with a top throw of 17.34 meters, just .43 m short of first. Smalls beat out individuals from UNC, Duke, Texas, Wake Forest, South Carolina and North Carolina A&T. The third place finisher from was nearly a full meter short of Smalls best throw at 16.46 m.
Adding to his top-five performance in the shot-put, Smalls also finished seventh in the discus throw with his best toss measured at 49.63 m, just .22 m away from sixth place held by Penn State's Corey Eck.
In the triple-jump, junior Will Scott came just .14 m away from taking home the top prize. His best jump of the day was measured at 15.27 m. The winner, Carl Morgan of Middle Tennessee State University, won with a best jump of 15.41 m. Scott out-leaped athletes from Houston, Nebraska, St. Augustine's, LSU, and North Carolina A&T.
The Men's and Women's Track and Field team will get back to action next weekend across town at the UNC Last Chance meet coming up on Friday, May 8.
