DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University head football coach Mose Rison announced two additions to his coaching staff on Saturday.

Former N.F.L. and North Carolina State University assistant coach Dick Portee has been named Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach, while former Towson University football student-athlete and coach Mike McGlinchey has been chosen as the Defensive Line Coach.

"We are fortunate to have two tremendous people who have a lot of experience," Rison said.

Portee, a 44-year coaching veteran, joins the NCCU staff after spending the past two seasons at Fayetteville State University as the assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach.

Portee was a running backs coach at North Carolina State University during the 2000-2006 seasons, and held the same post with the Wolfpack from 1990-98.

In between his two N.C. State coaching stints, Portee spent the 1999 campaign in the National Football League as running backs coach with the Cleveland Browns.

Portee is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, where he played running back and defensive back before receiving his bachelor's degree in Health and Physical in 1965. He went on to earn his master's degree in Health and Physical Education from Illinois State University in 1971.

Portee's coaching career began in 1965 at his alma mater, Eisenhower High School in Decatur, Ill., where he coached football, basketball and tennis.

His collegiate coaching career started as a defensive and offensive backs coach at Illinois State University from 1969-1976. From 1977-1981, he served as recruiting coordinator and defensive backs coach at Cornell University. He spent time at the University of Maryland as an assistant coach, coaching outside linebackers and wide receivers from 1982-1989.

"Coach Portee is a long-time friend," said Rison. "For us to be able to get him, with his status and experience, is a huge plus for this football program. He brings a wealth of knowledge and offensive expertise to the Eagles."

McGlinchey joins the NCCU staff after spending the past eight seasons as a running backs coach on the sidelines of his alma mater, Towson University. During his Towson tenure from 2001-08, he also served as the Tigers' video and recruiting coordinator, camp director and special teams coordinator.

A 1999 graduate of Towson University with a degree in Sports Studies, McGlinchey was a four-year letterwinner with the Tigers as an offensive guard and tight end. He earned Patriot League All-Academic Team recognition as a senior.

McGlinchey began his coaching career in March of 2000 as tight ends coach at the University of New Hampshire. After spending the spring with the Wildcats, he accepted a job as the tight ends coach with the Princeton University Tigers, where he spent the 2000 gridiron campaign.

"Coach McGlinchey brings a lot of energy to the field," Rison said. "He has been able to make significant improvements with the young men he has coached in a short period of time."

The NCCU Eagles will begin their third season of Division I-FCS competition on Sept. 5 at Hampton University.
