CARY, N.C. - The I-40 rival continues in softball as the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University defeated the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University, 11-3 in game one of a double header, on Thursday afternoon.
NCA&T jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Ryanne Hill blasted a two-run inside the park homer to lead A&T 2-0. The next two Lady Aggie batters scored on a wild pitch and an error from NCCU pitcher Kristen Schooler.
In the bottom half of the first inning, the Lady Eagles cut the deficit to two on a double by Sophia Blue. A sacrifice bunt from Ashanti Stroud, advance Blue to third. Blue then scored on an error from the Lady Aggies third baseman.
Andrea Searls connected on a single, as she advance to third on a chopper from Tia Kirby. Searls then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two apiece. NCCU left two runners stranded to end the first inning.
The Lady Aggies added two more runs in the third inning to go up 6-2, until the sixth inning when NCAT exploded on the Lady Eagles. The Lady Aggies led the inning off with a walk, then back-to-back singles to load the bases. NCAT scored on a wild pitch; walked in two runs, and then scored on two RBI's to go up 11-2.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, NCCU Michelle Ishida advance on base on balls, then Searls had a fielder's choice, but both runners were called out at second base. Jessica Refojo started the two out rally with a single up the middle. Refojo was brought in on a Kirby's error that was caused the third baseman, to give the Lady Eagles its third run of the game.
In the top of the seventh inning the Lady Aggie added on one run to end the game 11-3.
The second game was suspended in the top half of the fourth inning due to rain as the game was tied four all. The game will be completed in Greensboro on April 29.
