BREVARD, N.C. - A steady rain washed out day two competition at the 2009 Independent Collegiate Invitational in Brevard, N.C. on Tuesday and ruined any hopes the North Carolina Central University men's golf team may have had to mount a come-from-behind effort.

Sitting just five strokes out of fourth place after a day one score of 306, the NCCU Eagles settled for an eighth place finish in the team standings.

Event host Brevard College won the 2009 team trophy with a score of 291.

NCCU was topped by transfer Juan Sanchez with a 3-over 75, including a 35 on the back-nine, tying the Eagle newcomer for 15th place in the individual standings.

NCCU senior Chris Winters tied for 25th place with a score of 76 (+4), carding a 36 on the final nine holes. Fellow senior Josue Garza tied for 34th place with a 77 (+5), while NCCU rookie Braden Cox tallied a 78 (+6) for a tie in 44th place. Another Eagle freshman, Ronald Royster, placed 80th with a score of 95.

NCCU's next event will also be the final one of the season, as the Eagles travel to Port St. Lucie, Fla. to compete in the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship from May 9-11.
