CARY, NC - The Lady Eagles suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Barton College 6-2 and 10-9, on Monday afternoon, at the Thomas E. Brooks Park.

The Lady Eagles quickly jumped on the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the first inning. Back-to-back singles by Ashanti Stroud and Michelle Ishida gave NCCU hope, but the next two Lady Eagles batters left two of their runners stranded.

In the top of the third inning Barton College got on the board first when Stacy Wade blasted a triple to left-centerfield to score in two runs for the Lady Bulldogs.

NCCU answered BC on triple by Andrea Wheeler who then scored on a RBI grounder by Desanbra Franklin. In the top of the sixth the Lady Eagles' Sophia Blue singled, then advance to third. Blue was brought in on an RBI grounder by Andrea Serals, to tie the game at two apiece.

In the top of the seventh inning, BC scored four unanswered runs. One on walks and three on RBI grounders.

NCCU had seven hits and two errors in the first game. Franklin and Searls each had one RBI in the game.

In game two it was a different Lady Eagles team. NCCU came out in the bottom of the second inning with five hits and scored five unanswered runs. With bases loaded Ashanti Stroud blasted a double deep to right field to score three RBI's in the inning. Stroud was brought in on a RBI single by Sophia Blue.

The Lady Bulldogs scored in every inning including a homerun from Natalie Phipps in the top of the fifth inning. NCCU scored in the third and fourth inning to lead the Lady Bulldogs 9-6. Barton took over in the final two innings.

In the sixth inning, Kelsey Barnes hit a solo shot to right field to cut the Lady Eagle lead to one. The Lady Bulldog final inning at bat BC tacked on two insurance runs to force NCCU to score runs in the final inning.

NCCU could not get a runner on first base as each two of the batters, grounded to short, then second. The final out for NCCU was on a fly out to centerfield, ending the game 10-9.
