CARY, NC - The North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles Tennis team went 1-1 for the weekend as NCCU defeated Methodist College on Friday, but lost to the Spartans of Norfolk State on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, NCCU defeated Methodist College 5-2.
The No.1 doubles team of Chorna/Rogers def. Flaherty/Vivian 9-8 in a tiebreaker and the No.3 doubles team of Sinclair/Spain def. Brayton/Altman 9-7.
N.C. Central won four of the six singles matches to secure the 5-2 win. Ashley Rogers defeated Shannon Vivian 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Tatiana
Velasquez won in two sets over Lindsey Davis 6-1, 6-2 at the No.3 singles.
Other winners included Maritsann Sinclair, and Antionette Spain as both won their two set match 6-4, 6-2 and 7-5, 6-1.
Saturday match against the Spartans the Lady Eagles fell 6-1. NCCU lone win in the doubles was at the No. 2 doubles team of Velasquez/Medina winning 8-3.
Ashley Rogers took her opponent to a three set tiebreak but fell 6-4,4-6,6-1.
At the No. 4 singles Maria Medina won her match 6-2, 6-4 over Chengetayi Tsapayi.
