Final Stats

DURHAM, N.C - For the second straight night, the North Carolina Central University baseball team found itself behind after just one inning of play. In the previous contest against NC State, the Eagles got behind the eight-ball quickly with a four-run first. On Wednesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the UNC Wilmington Seahawks put up six runs in the first inning to jump on top of NCCU early in the ballgame. That was just the beginning of a tough night for the Eagles as the Seahawks pounded out 14 hits, while NCCU managed just four hits falling 13-2.

UNCW scored in six of the nine innings in the second meeting between the two schools, and the Eagles could not seem to get anything going as the Seahawk pitchers combined to strike out 15 NCCU batters on the night.

The lone bright spot for the Eagles came in the fourth when NCCU loaded the bases and freshman Anthony Wilson brought in two RBI with a hard liner to left center field putting the Eagles on the scoreboard.

UNCW backstop Cody Stanley started the ballgame with a home run and a triple, ending the night going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Seahawk first baseman Andrew Cain finished his night with the exact same numbers at the plate in the win.

The Eagles (3-8)try to regroup after falling in their last three contests and get set for its second trip to Savannah, Ga., taking on the Savannah State Tigers in a three-game set this weekend. Game one of a Saturday doubleheader is set for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
