Final Stats

CONWAY, S.C. - The North Carolina Central University track and field team strapped on their running shoes and placed 20 top ten finishes as well as earning four first place performances this past weekend at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational.
On the field for the men, senior Eric Smalls captured first place in the discus throw competition with a distance of 50.43 meters. Smalls also placed third in the shot put throwing a distance of 16.07m.
Senior Will Scott added to the top ten honors in third place in the long jump with a distance of 6.63m.
The running squad went prepared for competition as they finished first in two categories and added five top ten finishes to the count for the Eagles.
Top honors went to the men's 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Chris Davis, Jeff Rankins, Charles Lindsay, and Clifton Scarborough, crossing the line first with a time of 42.22, defeating Kentucky State (2nd, 42.50), Radford (3rd, 42.71) and the host team Coastal Carolina (4th, 42.91).
Gliding his way to victory, sophomore Charles Lindsay finished the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.50. Teammate Christopher Martin crossed the finish line in sixth place in 15.36.
Adding to the top ten finishes were Chris Davis (8th, 50.06) and Chris Hall (9th, 50.15) in the 400 meter dash, Phillip Hardy in the 100 meter dash (3rd, 10.89) as well as in the 200 meter dash (7th, 22.96), and James Kukat in the 800 meter run (5th, 1:58.08).
On the women's side, the 4x400m relay team, consisting of Chavaria Williams, Shadae Giles, Tierra Blue and Ambria Alexander, secured first place in 3:55.42 over Elon (2nd, 3:58.36) and Towson ( 3rd, 3:59.94), while the other NCCU foursome of Brittany Brown, Sheldonia Simmers, Desinia Johnson and Brandy Cox came in fourth place in 4:11.83.
Williams and Giles also finished in second and third in the 400m dash with times of 57.06 and 57.24, followed by freshman Chrystal Shephard in 10th in 1:00.18.
Continuing in relay team top honors, the women's 4x100m relay team (Brittany Brown, Deanna Eley, Shadae Giles and Ambria Alexander) came in third place with a collective time of 48.22.
Adding to the top 10 finishes for the women were sophomore Saquenda Dallas in fourth (26.03) in the 200 meter dash and Brittany Brown running the 100 meter dash in 12.52 to finish in seventh place. Dallas also finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.27m.
In the field for the women, freshman Paig Robinson and sophomore Kim Derrickson finished in fifth and sixth place in the javelin throw competition with distances of 37.45m and 37.15m.
In the shot put competition, two Lady Eagles took top ten honors. Freshman Myosha Price finished in fourth place throwing a distance of 11.91m, while junior Brandy Cox completed the competition in ninth place (11.13m).
Next competition for the Eagles will be at home as they host the LeRoy T. Walker Invitational on March 21.
