NCCU BASEBALL TO MAKE 2009 HOME DEBUT SUNDAY

Feb. 27, 2009

DURHAM, N.C. - After beginning the season on the road, the North Carolina Central University baseball team returns to the Bull City to make its home debut this Sunday. The opponent is an old foe from the CIAA in St. Augustine's with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Sunday's game is the first of a season-high 10-game homestand for the Eagles, who fell earlier in the week at Davidson, 12-2.

Toeing the rubber for Dr. Henry White's squad will be NCCU sophomore Jeff Citero (0-1, 3.60 ERA), who got the start last Saturday in NCCU's loss to Norfolk State. In that ballgame, Citero pitched a respectable five innings, giving up just two earned runs, striking out four Spartan batters and walking just one.

One player that has really shined out of the box is NCCU freshman Akeem Hood. In last weekend's Savannah State Classic, Hood went six-for-12 with 2 RBI and a triple, and currently is batting .375 with 3 RBI and two stolen bases.

Admission is free at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
