FARMVILLE, Va. - North Carolina Central University rookie guard Jamar Briscoe scored 34 points to equal a season-high, but it was not enough for the Eagles as host Longwood University blistered the nets during a 109-89 victory on Wednesday night inside Willett Hall in Farmville, Va.
The Lancers, winners of nine of their last 12 games, tickled the twine to the tune of 63.1 percent from the field, including 14-of-27 shooting (51.9 percent) from three-point range.
Longwood's lone senior, Ryan Bogan, dropped five triples for 19 points in his final home game. Dana Smith topped five Lancers to net double-figures with team-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Lancers (16-13).
NCCU sophomore Vincent Davis poured in a career-high 27 points off the bench, while senior Bryan Ayala contributed 10 points, seven assists and five steals for the Eagles (2-26).
NCCU collected 15 steals, forcing 20 Longwood turnovers, while committing 16 miscues.
The Eagles will have a shot at redemption on Saturday (Feb. 28) as NCCU hosts Longwood for "Senior Night" inside McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
