DAVIDSON, N.C. - North Carolina Central University pitchers held Davidson College batters to only eight hits, but five of them were home runs as the Wildcats defeated NCCU 12-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
Davidson senior second baseman Zach Kayne belted three home runs, freshman Seth Freeman recorded a grand slam for his first collegiate hit, and designated hitter Danny Weiss added a solo blast to power the Wildcats (4-1).
NCCU shortstop Anthony Wilson and designated hitter Greg Pickett recorded two hits each to account for four of the team's six hits.
Pickett put the Eagles on top 1-0 in the top of the first inning with a two-out, RBI single, driving in Wilson, who had a one-out double.
Davidson responded by plating six runs in the bottom of the first, including four runs courtesy of Freeman's grand slam. The offensive output was more than the Eagles could overcome.
