CARY, N.C. - The Norfolk State University softball team swept a doubleheader from North Carolina Central University, winning 10-0, 11-5, on Friday afternoon at the Thomas E. Brooks Park.
In game one, Norfolk (2-2) scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning on a grand slam by Danielle Wright. NCCU threatened in the bottom of the fourth with two left on, but didn't capitalize in the inning.
NSU put six more runs on the board in the top of the seventh to seal the win. Allysa Velazquez earned win, while Kristen Schooler took the loss.
In the game two, NCCU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Michelle Ishida's sacrifice bunt to score Sophia Blue who led off the inning with a triple.
NSU Jeanette Sauceda blasted a two run home runs to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning.
NCCU, (0-11) scored runs in the third and fourth inning on wild pitch to score Blue and a single by Ashley Henderson scored Nadia Moreta to cut the Spartan lead to 6-5.
NSU would rally to take a commanding lead over the Lady Eagles. NSU would score two runs in each inning expect in the fifth to only score one run. Ishida took the loss for NCCU after pitching seven innings and giving up 16 hits, 11 earned runs, and retiring two batters.
Blue was 4-for-4 and scored two runs in game two.
