SAVANNAH, GA - North Carolina Central University dropped a 47-44 decision to the Lady Tigers of Savannah State University at Tiger Arena Saturday night.
NCCU battled the Lady Tigers for most of the game, but eventually could not overcome the 30 turnovers they committed.
The Lady Eagles shot only 40 percent for the contest, however that was better than the Lady Tigers who hit just 39 percent of their shots.
Savannah State would struggle from beyond the arc, shooting 0-2 from behind the 3-point line. Collectively the Lady Eagles were 15 of 37 from the field for the contest.
NCCU would keep things close for most of the 1st half, as the game was tied at six with 14:32 remaining. The Lady Eagles would close the half to take a 26-25 lead into intermission.
Although the Lady Tigers were competitive for much of the half, they led NCCU by 10, 36-26 with 12:07 in the second half. NCCU however went on an 8-0, to cut the lead 36-34, with 7:53 left.
SSU went back up seven before the Lady Eagles used their rebounding and free-throw shooting to their advantage to cut the deficit to eight 45-43.
Chasidy Williams led NCCU with 15 points and six rebounds. Teammate Latoya Bennett had a double-double night of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
