COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO (NCCUEaglePride.com)- The North Carolina Central University Eagles saw a poor shooting first half and a dismal performance from the perimeter become the key ingredients in their fifth straight loss dropping a 61-49 decision against the Air Force Academy Falcons on Wednesday night at Clune Arena.
Air Force scored the first seven points of the first half while it took almost four minutes for NCCU to score its first points. NCCU scored just three points throughout the first seven minutes. The poor shooting first stanza saw the Eagles go 7-for-21 from the field and 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. On the other side the Falcons shot 64 percent including 3-of-6 from three-point range. NCCU trailed 57-37 heading into the halftime break.
The second stanza saw NCCU improve its shooting performance outscoring the Falcons 32 to 24, that included a late rally that cut a 20-point deficit to 10 with 1:39 left following a Michael Glasker (Newport News, Va.) three-pointer. That was as close as NCCU could get falling 61-49, and dropping its fifth straight game.
On a positive note, NCCU forced 19 Falcon turnovers, and converted that into 14 Eagle points. C.J. Wilkerson led the Eagles once again dropping in 15 points hitting 6-of-7 free throws despite struggling from the field going 4-for-11.
After traveling 1,634 miles to take on the Air Force Academy (4-1), NCCU (1-7) heads back home to prepare for its next opponent Caver Bible College. That "Trailblazers Weekend" matchup is set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday from McDougald-McLendon Gym.
