DID YOU KNOW? From 1999-2006, North Carolina Central University captured seven of the eight CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) women's cross country individual titles.
The streak started courtesy of the dominant running career of Katerina Glosova (Cernotin, Czech Republic), who won four consecutive conference crowns from 1999-2002.
After sharing the wealth in 2003, Yolanda Barber (Suitland, Md.) regained the CIAA cross country individual title in back-to-back seasons from 2004-05.
Current Lady Eagle senior Ashley Cooke (Hampton, Va.) won the conference championship in 2006, her first season at NCCU and the university's final year of competition in the CIAA.
As part of North Carolina Central University's Centennial celebration, the NCCU Department of Athletics will post sports history facts from the institution's first 100 years to its official web site, www.NCCUEaglePride.com, every Monday during the year-long observance.
