DURHAM, NC - The North Carolina Central University Eagles were unable to overcome a slow start in falling to the East Carolina University Pirates Thursday night 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-19) in McLendon-McDougald Gym.
NCCU (0-4) had a bad day offensively, as the Eagles had a .034 hitting percentage for the match.
No Eagle was able to register double figures in kills. Avaniki Campbell led the Eagles with six kills. Rachel Lloyd and Kristan Fields both led the way for NCCU defensively with seven digs each.
East Carolina (4-0) was led by Melissa Zentner, who pounded out 10 kills, and Katie Prast contributed to the Pirates with eight kills. Hanna Fenker had match-highs of 17 assists and eight digs.
ECU dominated offensively by tallying a .325 hitting percentage, including a .571 hitting percentage in game two.
The Eagles will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. this weekend to participate in the Winthrop University Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
