BALTIMORE, Md. - North Carolina Central University suffered its second straight blowout loss as Morgan State University dominated the visiting Eagles, 49-7, inside Hughes Stadium in Baltimore, Md.
During the past two weeks, NCCU (0-3) has been outscored 105-14, including a 56-7 loss at James Madison a week ago.
On Saturday, the Bears amassed 369 yards of total offense, including 247 yards rushing. NCCU managed only 223 total yards with just 67 rushing yards.
The Eagles committed seven turnovers with a lost fumble and six interceptions. NCCU senior quarterback Stadford Brown tossed five interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. In fourth-quarter relief, sophomore quarterback Keon Williams also threw a pick which was returned 60 yards for the final score of the game. The Bears totaled 165 interception return yards, compared to only 156 passing yards by NCCU.
Brown finished with 137 yards through the air on 12-for-26 passing, while Williams completed 1-of-4 passes for 19 yards. Brown did manage to extend his streak of games with at least one touchdown pass to 14 when he connected with Will Scott for a 22-yard score at 12:53 of the fourth quarter.
Scott ended the day with five receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown. NCCU's top rusher was Tony McCord with 45 ground yards on 11 attempts.
Morgan State (1-1) running back Devan James recorded 114 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, while Keith Lee chipped in 74 yards and a score on the ground.
A bright sport for the NCCU defense was the play of sophomore lineman Teryl White, who amassed eight tackles (five solo), including 4.0 takedowns behind the line of scrimmage with a sack. Senior linebacker Alex Winters added eight tackles (four solo) for the Eagles.
MSU's defense was topped by Jarrell Guyton with nine tackles (four solo) and an interception returned 22 yards for a touchdown. The other scores off of picks were by Darren McKhan (49 yards) and Rodney Etienne (60 yards).
NCCU will search for its first win of the season next Saturday (Sept. 20) at Central Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. in the "NAACP Harmony Classic."
