SID BLOG: EAGLES COME OUT AT NIGHT

Aug. 5, 2008

It's 10:28 p.m. and I just returned to my office after North Carolina Central University's first football practice of the 2008 season.

Yes, you heard me right, it's late at night and the Eagles just wrapped up practice. How is this possible?

The University recently finished the installation of new lights on the NCCU track & field facility, which is also where the football team practices.

They look great, both the lights and the squad.

The returners appear to be in good shape and the new guys look like Division I athletes. I saw a few big offensive linemen, some tall receivers, and some athletic defensive backs and linebackers, along with several quality running backs. I may have missed some folks while I was making my rounds, but that is what I remember right off the top of my head.

The coaches are all ready to go and in good spirits. Second-year head coach Mose Rison was even laughing and cracking some jokes when he addressed the team after the 60-minute workout. I doubt the smiles and laughter will come as easy on Tuesday.
