GREENWOOD - Lander seniors Austin Murray and Lib Harris celebrated Senior Day in a special way Monday afternoon as the Bearcats swept NCAA Division I North Carolina Central University, 6-1 and 8-0, at Doug Spears Field.

Lander improves to 12-31 overall, while the Eagles fall to 3-34.

For the first time in her career, Murray (5-14) earned both victories on the mound, while Harris scored a rare feat when she singled then advanced home on two Eagle errors to help the Bearcats earn the shutout victory in the second game, which was called due to the eight-run rule.

In the first game, Murray struck out eight and allowed just one run on three hits in the complete seven innings. NCCU's Kristen Schooler (2-16) took the loss as she struck out six, walked four and allowed six runs (one earned) on eight hits in the complete six innings. NCCU committed four errors in the game.

Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Sara Senn singled, advanced to third on an Eagle error then scored on a wild pitch. The Bearcats made it 2-0 in the third when Lindsay Whitfield walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a wild pitch.

NCCU scored its only run of the afternoon in the fifth to cut the margin to 2-1 when Francheska Pittman singled, advanced to second on a throwing error, to third on a wild pitch and scored on an illegal pitch.

Lander plated four runs in the sixth inning as Carrie Hudson stroked an RBI double then scored on a fielding error and Natalie Smith added another RBI double and scored on a throwing error.

In the second game, Murray struck out six, walked one and allowed just two hits in the complete game shut out. Schooler (2-17) suffered the loss as she walked four and allowed eight runs (five earned) on nine hits in 4.2 innings.

Lander took a 2-0 lead in the first on Whitfield's RBI single and Haley Foster's RBI double. The Bearcats made it 3-0 in the third when Whitfield scored on Foster's sacrifice fly.

The game was called in the five-run, fifth inning. Senn led off the inning with a single then her and Harris both scored on Harris' rare round-tripper. Whitfield then scored on Foster's RBI single and Hudson's two-RBI single plated both Aubrie Phillips and Foster.

NCCU junior Sophia Blue hit 3-for-5 during the doubleheader to top the Lady Eagle offense.
