NORFOLK, VA - North Carolina Central University suffered a doubleheader sweep (14-4, 5-0) at the hands of the Spartans of Norfolk State University on Sunday in Norfolk, Va.

NCCU got on the board first in game one, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Norfolk State answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and six more in the second frame to cruise to a 14-4 victory.

Robert Landis and Donald Murray collected two hits each for the Eagles, while Kurt Wilson, Kyle Davis and Tye Gray all had RBI singles in the loss.

NSU was topped by Billy Canady with three hits and three RBI, while Chris Joyce drove in four runs with a pair of doubles.

In game two, Leon Schabacker tossed a two-hit shutout to lift the Spartans to a 5-0 victory.

Gray and Edward Pegues accounted for NCCU's lone two hits in the nightcap.

NCCU pitcher Jeff Citero scattered five hits and surrendered only one earned run in six innings of work, as the Eagles committed six errors.

NCCU's record falls to 1-6, while NSU improves to 5-4.

The teams return to the diamond on Monday at 12 noon to complete the three-game series.
