DURHAM, N.C. -- Alderson-Broaddus College amassed 14 hits during an 8-2 victory over North Carolina Central University on Sunday, ruining the Eagles' home-opener at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Alderson-Broaddus lit the scoreboard first, courtesy of four second-inning walks by Eagles starting pitcher Douglas Dalley, giving the Battlers a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning when the Battlers blew the game open by plating four runs to expand their lead to 5-0.
NCCU used back-to-back triples by Justin Goodson and Oliver Jenkins in the bottom of the sixth inning to break up the shutout bid and make the score 5-1.
ABC put the game away by scoring twice in the eighth inning and one more time in the ninth.
The Eagles managed one more run with an RBI single by Kenny Martin in the ninth.
Alderson-Broaddus (4-1) was topped by Owen Otauka and Ronnie Whitt with three hits each, while Sean Rogers, Paul Day and Alan Baumann added a pair of singles apiece.
Seven different Eagles accounted for NCCU's seven hits.
Mark Teague picked up the win for the Battlers, while Dalley took the loss for NCCU (0-3).
