DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University sophomore Justin Goodson drove in all five runs during a 5-2 game two victory, including a second inning grand slam, to lead the Eagles to a doubleheader sweep of Virginia State University on Tuesday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

In the opener, NCCU rallied from a 3-2 deficit by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a come-from-behind 6-3 win.

In the decisive sixth stanza, Kyle Davis tied the game with an RBI single. Kurt Wilson scored the go-ahead run on a pitcher's balk during a two-out attempted steal of home. Gene Suarez followed with a single to plate two more runs and provide some cushion for the Eagles.

Brandon Oatis earned the complete-game victory for NCCU, scattering eight hits and striking out four batters. Oliver Jenkins hit 2-for-2 for the Eagles.

In game two, Goodson took matters into his own hands. The sophomore second baseman blasted a two-out, bases-loaded home run over the DBAP's "Blue Monster" in left field to put NCCU on top 4-0 in the second frame.

Virginia State scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to make things interesting, but Goodson responded with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 5-2 victory.

Douglas Dalley allowed only two hits and collected six strikeouts during the victory, while James Jordan relieved Dalley in the sixth inning for the save.

David Scott had a pair of hits in game two for NCCU (4-11).

VSU (9-13) was topped by Andrew Holt, who went 6-for-8 at the plate during the doubleheader.

NCCU returns to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Thursday (March 20) to host Elizabeth City State for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
