CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - George Washington University pounded out 20 hits, including four home runs, to cruise to a 22-1 victory over North Carolina Central University during second-day action of the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Junior Carrie Higdon powered the GWU offense with three hits, including a double and a home run, for four runs batted in. Freshman pitcher Ali Pardo struck out six batters and allowed only three hits in four shutout innings of work for the win.
NCCU received hits from Sophia Blue, Francheska Pittman, Jennifer Langston and Kristina Williams. NCCU stranded seven runners on base, but scored the first run of its inaugural season of Division I competition in the fifth inning when a wild pitch allowed Blue to cross the plate.
