DURHAM. N.C. -- North Carolina Central University freshman Tatiana Velasquez captured the team's lone victory against Appalachian State University as the visiting Mountaineers cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Lady Eagles on Sunday at Garrett Road Park in Durham, N.C.
Velasquez defeated Amanda Cash 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles position.
Fellow NCCU freshman Ashley Rogers battled with ASU junior Monica Tomas at No. 1 singles, but the veteran Tomas edged Rogers 7-5, 4-6, 11-9.
Others earning singles wins for ASU were Heather Prior, Elizabeth Holland, Caroline Mauch and Mallory Cook.
The Mountaineers swept the three doubles matches with Cash and Prior winning at No. 1, Tomas and Mauch at No. 2, and Holland and Laura Janke at No. 3.
ASU evened its record at 1-1, while NCCU dropped to 0-2.
