DURHAM, N.C. - Student-athletes from the North Carolina Central University and Duke University football programs joined forces on Thursday (Dec. 4) to put smiles on the faces of some area youth this holiday season by packing and wrapping gift boxes as part of the Durham Parks and Recreation Fourth Annual Holiday Shoebox Campaign.

More than 70 NCCU and Duke football student-athletes gathered at the Irwin R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center at Campus Hills in Durham to stuff shoeboxes with toys and basic necessities, such as socks, gloves, hats, toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap, and then wrapped the boxes for delivery to children ages 7-9 in the Durham Parks and Recreation's After School programs.

Marilynn Rison and Karen Cutcliffe, the wives of NCCU head coach Mose Rison and Duke head coach David Cutcliffe, spearheaded this year's event.

The Shoebox Campaign began as an effort to provide a few of the basic necessities for the children in the DPR After School programs during the holiday season. For information on donating to the Shoebox Campaign, contact the Durham Parks and Recreation at (919) 560-4355.
